Embracing the HyggeTo understand “Embracing the Hygge” you have to know what “Hygge” is, it’s a Danish and Norwegian word for a mood of coziness and comfort with feelings of wellness and contentment.

With fall having descended upon us and the summer now at our backs, it is fairly common to hear Oregonians yearn for sunshine and curse the rainy days that are certainly in store. No matter how much we hope for the rain to hold off or for just one more string of warm sunny days, it’s that time of year when we have to face the fact that mother nature needs to water one of her most beautiful gardens so that we’ll all be able to fully enjoy it again in about six months. That’s the essence of “Embracing the Hygge” in the Pacific Northwest.

But just because another gorgeous summer is behind us, it doesn’t mean that we’ll be in a constant state of suffering until the thermometer goes back above 75. While the sun may not be keeping us warm, a nice bowl of soup, a cup of hot chocolate, or a snuggly blanket can fill the void on an otherwise gloomy day. We also have a series of holidays from Halloween to New Year’s Eve that will keep the good times with friends and family rolling.

In the coming months, if you hear someone moaning about another gloomy day in Oregon, be sure to focus on the fun in front of you before spending too much time longing for what is now in the past.
